  • Location: Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 2nd Street South, Arlington VA
  • Directions: Arlington Blvd. (US 50), south on Irving St. (east of Glebe), west on 2nd St., entrance on right.
  • Outdoor on trail: October 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29
  • Indoor on track:   November 5, 12, 19, & 26; and December 3 & 10
        Typical schedule:
  • 2:50-2:55 PM: Enter thru Door #12, check in and pick up name tag
  • 3:00 PM: Circle Time I: Warm-ups, stretching and strengthening exercises, coach or parent prepared lecture - 1. Equipment; 2. Training Plan; 3. Physiology; 4. Nutrition
  • 3:20 PM: Group I: Break into groups:
        Grade K-1-2: 50-100 meters; Grade 3-4-5: 200-400m;  Grade 6-7-8: 800m-one mile; all: race walk, advanced sprint, advanced distance
  • 4:00 PM: Circle Time II: Recovery stretching, water
  • 4:05  Group II: Break into groups: Sprints, middle & long distance, race walk, shot put
  • 4:30  Group III: Relay Races
  • 4:55  Recovery: Refreshments
  • Train with experienced coaches:
  • including Albert Arcand, Craig Chasse, Jim Darr, Art Klein, Desta Beriso Morkama, Betsy Peace, Abdelillah Razah, Phillip Riblett, Rick Stroman, Feru Dadi Wake, Chuck Williams, Jay Jacob Wind
  • Apply to be a PVTC youth coach

  • Run and walk fast, jump long, throw far
  • Stretch to increase flexibility and prevent injury
  • Build strength, endurance, and speed
  • Learn to improve nutrition and health
  • Follow well-establish skills progressions:
          • Shot put, by Don Babbit
          • Acceleration, by Walt Cline

  • Adults may sign up as volunteer coaches and get a really good workout running with the young athletes

  • The December 10 workout is a practice meet for winter meets to prepare for indoor meets in winter:
  • at Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Sundays in January and February
  • at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, Landover MD on Sundays in December, January, and February
  • at Hagerstown MD Community College in December, conducted by Mountain Express Track & Field Club, no date announced yet
  • at Episcopal High School, Alexandria VA, in December and February conducted by ITS Open, in December and February
