Marathon Finds a Home On Mount Vernon Trail

Tuesday, March 23, 2004; Page D02

The Potomac River Run, originally conceived as the Arlington Marathon, has a confirmed location and a permit after a rocky start.

The marathon and half marathon will be run May 2 on the Mount Vernon Trail in Alexandria. The National Park Service issued a permit for the event last week. Arlington County declined to issue a special events permit for the original course, which was to be run largely on trails in Arlington.

The field of 200 runners will start in Belle Haven Park and share the trail with other runners and bicyclists. -- Dustin Gouker
