"DC-MD-VA "High School Hammer Throw Championship"
Sunday, June 3, 2012
Ptotmac Valley Track Club will continue to promote and hold an annual "District of Columbia / Maryland / Virginia High School Hammer Throw State Championship" at Falls Church High School, Falls Church, VA. This year's edition is the 6th annual, and it will take place on June 3, 2012. The meet is open to high school-age throwers of any state, and there is another flight for youth/open/masters throwers. For more details, please go to pvtc.org and contact Tony Dziepak: firstname.lastname@example.org.
As in past years, this is a piggy-back event in conjunction with a USATF-sanctioned Potomac Valley Track Club all-comers' meet. $4 entry covers HS hammer championships plus unlimited number of other events. There is also an open hammer flight for youth/open/masters throwers. The event will be conducted under USATF rules, and it has no involvement with the NFHS, Virginia High School League (VHSL) or any other state high school sports and activities organization.
The goal of this event is to provide a safe, high school-age, competitive hammer competition in the mid-Atlantic region, to recognize unofficial state champions (DC/MD/VA), and to promote and grow the event at the high school level. If you are high school age, even if you are from another state, like PA, WV, DE, etc., you are invited to compete in the high school flight.
In the high school section, Boys will throw the 12#, and girls will throw the 4K, USATF rules. The open hammer section is open to all ages (incl. youth and masters) and age-eligible weights, so, for example, junior-age boys will also have the option to throw the 6K if they desire to do so in order to pursue qualification for other meets. In all of our all-comers' meets, we are accommodating to youth hammer for all ages above and beyond USATF with age-appropriate lighter weights (4K, 3K, 2K, etc.)
Online preregistration is optional for the all-comer's meet, but not required. Also I cannot see the online preregistration, so whether you preregister or plan to register on site, please email me your information and intent to compete (no obligation) to me for planning purposes. Please send me athlete name, grade, high school, state, and previous hammer mark(s), if any.
