Second annual "DC/MD/VA" high school hammer throw champs Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Falls Church High School, Falls Church, VA.

Like last year, this is a piggy-back event in conjunction with a USATF-sanctioned Potomac Valley Track Club all-comer's meet.  $4 entry covers HS hammer champs plus unlimited number of other events.  The hammer throw at these meets is contested at Falls Church HS whereas all other events are contested at nearby Langley HS.  More meet info at: www.pvtc.org

The goal of this event is to provide a safe, high school-age, competitive hammer competition in the mid-atlantic region, to crown unofficial district/state champions (DC/MD/VA), and to promote and grow the event at the high school level.  If you are high school age, even if you are from another state, like PA, WV, DE, etc.  you are invited to compete in the high school flight.  There are no medals or t-shirts--just competition and recognition.

The circle is a (Top-n-Bond) resurfaced, medium-fast discus circle with a hammer insert.  In the high school section, Boys will throw the #12, and girls will throw the 4K, and we will follow USATF rules.  The open hammer section is open to all ages (incl. youth and masters) and age-eligible weights, so, for example, junior-age boys (born in calendar years 1989-90) will also have the option to throw the 6K.  In all of our all-comer's meets, we are acommodating to youth hammer above and beyond USATF according to the following table:

Born              boys   girls
1994-95            4K    3K
1996 or later*    3K    3K
* minimum length rule waived

HS flights are scheduled to start at 12 noon, and the all-comer's open hammer section will follow.  In addition, anyone else can participate in other events (shot, disc, jav, etc.)  but this will be at Langley HS, some 10 minutes away, with javelin at about 9am, discus starting at about 10am, and shot to follow.  But please get over to Falls Church by 11:30am for hammer.

Registration on-site--no preregistration; however, please email your information and intent to compete to me for planning purposes.  Please send me athlete name, grade, high school, state, and previous hammer mark(s), if any, and any questions.  Send email to "dziepak "at" gmail "dot" com"
